UN Secretary General's Chief of Staff, Mark Malloch Brown, delivered a lecture at event co-sponsored by the Campaign for a UN Democracy Caucus On October 6th, 2005, Secretary General Annan's Chief of Staff, Mark Malloch Brown, delivered a lecture in New York on UN promotion of Democracy and Human Rights. Mr. Malloch Brown, who held the position of Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) during the last six years, analyzed how the reforms stated by the Outcome Document of the UN World Summit will foster the work of the United Nations in the fields of Human Rights and Democracy. The event was co-sponsored by the Campaign for a UN Democracy Caucus, together with the Foreign Policy Association and the National Endowment for Democracy. World Movement for Democracy Third Assembly:
Building Democracy On February 1–4, The World Movement for Democracy held its Third Assembly. International Civil Society Forum on Democracy,
Good Governance and On September 8–9, 2003 Mongolia hosted a civil society forum to examine the inter-dependent relations between the promotion of democracy, culture of peace, fundamental human rights, and good governance on one hand and attainment of security, development and elimination of poverty on the other. Fifth International Conference for New or Restored Democracies In collaboration with the Government of Mongolia and United Nations Development Programme, International Conference for New and Restored Democracies-5 took place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia September 10–12, 2003. The Conference theme was “Democracy, Good Governance and Civil Society.” Approximately 109 governments sent representatives ranging from Foreign Ministers to local Ambassadors, as well as senior figures from the UN, EU and other multilateral institutions. Experts prepared 15 background and synthesis papers on various democracy-related topics, some of which were presented in the discussions. To read more about the conference click
